The Admission Process

The Children’s Services Program

  • Welcomes school-age children up to 21 years of age who have received a primary diagnosis of autism
  • Must have a referral from a public school district or social service agency

All referrals to the Children’s Services Program should be made to Anderson Center’s Admissions Administrator and must include the following:

  • Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
  • Academic testing results
  • Current psychological testing
  • Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA)
  • Behavioral Support Plan (BSP)
  • Psychiatric evaluation (if available)
  • Health history
  • Family and social history
  • Related services evaluations (Occupational, Physical, and Speech Therapy)

Referral Review Process
Our Admissions team reviews and evaluates referral packets upon receipt. If, through this review, a candidate is determined to be an appropriate fit for our program, the parents/legal guardians are invited to a screening interview. The family /legal guardian is asked to complete an Applicant Information Form prior to the scheduled interview.  This will allow our Admissions Department to have a dialogue with the parent/legal guardian to learn more about their child.  This interview is generally conducted via conference call with an Admissions representative.  School district personnel are also welcome to participate in the interview, which includes a program review, and question and answer session in regards to the student.

Next, if the family and the Anderson Center team are in agreement to move forward toward a potential placement, a student interview is scheduled. The student interview includes an assessment of the student with our Education team, and a tour of our campus.  Based on the written materials and the interviews, a recommendation is then made by the interview team to our Admissions Committee for determination of acceptance.

The Adult Services Program

  • Accepts referrals for individuals over the age of 18 for our day program or residential program, or both
  • Must have a referral from the local Developmental Disabilities Regional Office (DDRO), Medicaid Service Coordinators (MSCs) and/or the family of the individual

Referral Review Process
Anderson Center’s Adult Services Admissions Committee meets to review documentation and, at that time, determines whether an observation of the individual and an interview with the family is appropriate. Tours of our LIFELONG LEARNING℠ Centers and Individualized Residential Alternatives (IRAs) are a part of the family interview, followed by discussions with members of the adult services program administration. If the final determination is that the individual is appropriate for our program, Anderson Center will inform the family and the referral source of the decision.
