Festival to Benefit Anderson Features Food Trucks, Mobile Meals

June 05, 2015

Food trucks are descending upon the Hudson Valley for the season during the Hyde Park Food Truck Festival.

Area food trucks will gather in Hyde Park on the first Sunday each month from June to October, beginning on Sunday. While the organizers of the event have changed, the unique profile of the foods have remained the same.

More than just hot dogs and ice cream, the food trucks offer items from shaved ice and sandwiches to barbecue and cupcakes

“Each truck tries to get more and more creative,” said Gloria O’Hearn, owner of Mr. Grumpy’s food truck. The trucks will gather at 4390 Albany Post Rd.

A committee consisting of food truck owners organized the second annual festival, which was run by the Hyde Park Chamber of Commerce for the inaugural event.

O’Hearn, vice president of the committee, said the food truck owners wanted to keep the festival going as a charity event.

“It’s about giving back to the community,” O’Hearn said.

Proceeds from the festival will support various local charities, starting with the Anderson Center for Autism on Sunday.

“We hope to donate no less than $2,000 to each organization,” O’Hearn said.

The committee plans to raise the money through truck fees and t-shirt sales. The festival itself is free to the public, and food trucks will be selling meals at regular price.

The festival will feature 14 food trucks, alongside other vendors, as well as live music, face-painting and a bounce house.

“It’s just a day of fun,” O’Hearn said.
