Casey I. Kirkpatrick

Casey I. Kirkpatrick, MS CCC-SLP is a New York State licensed Speech-Language Pathologist and Article 16 Lead Therapist at the Anderson Center for Autism (ACA).

Casey has been an SLP for almost ten years and began her career in skilled nursing and rehabilitation, as well as acute care at the hospital level. Experience includes stroke, head and neck cancers, feeding tubes, dementias, Parkinson’s, and traumatic brain injury, among others. Areas of treatment consisted of dysphagia (swallowing disorders), communication, cognition, aphasia, and executive functioning disorders. At ACA, Casey works with the adult population in the Article 16 clinic and her focus has shifted to autism and communication skills, including expressive, receptive, and pragmatic language skills, as well as dysphagia, feeding, and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). She has also worked with homeschooled students who receive services, and maintains her knowledge of language development, articulation, and phonological disorders. 

Casey is a clinical doctoral candidate at Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions in Provo, Utah. Her Capstone project entitled “Effects of AAC Training on the Communicative Interactions of Direct Support Professionals Working with Autistic Adults in Day Programs” aims to explore the use of interval training of staff to support the communication needs of those who reside in congregate care and attend day programs, with a direct focus on the aging population and their specific communication needs.

Casey previously completed her Master’s degree in Speech Pathology at the State University of New York at New Paltz. She completed a Bachelor’s in Communication Disorders and a minor in Dead Studies at the same university. In addition, Casey completed an Associates in Secondary Education in English with a Certificate in Sign Language. Casey holds her Certificate of Clinical Competence through the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) as well as achieving the ASHA Award for Continuing Education twice so far. Casey has completed certified trainings for PECS and LAMP as well as a 24-hour ASHA AAC course.
