An unexpected duo have partnered up to create a brand-new beer: Mill House Brewing Company in Poughkeepsie and the Anderson Center for Autism in Staatsburg. The new brew, creatively named “Mr. Anderson,” is an ode to the autism organization’s founder, Dr. V.V. Anderson. The custom-made, smooth ale is a deep copper color with a malty taste and smoky flavor, and is inspired by Anderson’s own Scottish heritage.

The ale, which the Anderson Center commissioned to help commemorate its 90-year anniversary, is a “68 Schilling” beer crafted in the Scottish style. (The number 68 refers to the statistic that one in every 68 children is diagnosed with autism.)

On March 30, the beer was featured by Poughkeepsie-based radio station, 101.5FM (WPDH), as its “Beer of the Week.” The official launch of Mr. Anderson Ale occurred on Friday, April 3 at Mill House Brewing Company, in conjunction with Autism Awareness Month. The Anderson Center’s 90 years of service were also celebrated, and Mill House Brewing Company has pledged to donate one dollar for every pint of Mr. Anderson Ale sold to the Anderson Center.

The Anderson Center for Autism is a not-for-profit organization that employs 800 specialists to provide programs for children and adults living with the disorder. Mill House Brewing Company, which opened in the fall of 2013, was named “Best New Restaurant” in 2014 by readers of this very publication (read about it here).
