Autism Center Creates Scholarship Named for Retiring CEO

Date April 4, 2016

STAATSBURG – Anderson Center for Autism, a Staatsburg-based autism treatment center, has announced the creation of a new scholarship named for retiring Executive Director Neil Pollack.

“In 2001, I was asked to take on a fantastic challenge, leading Anderson to a place of stability, longevity, and most importantly, a place of passion for possibilities,” said Anderson Center for Autism CEO/Executive Director, Neil Pollack earlier this year while announcing his retirement.

While Pollack’s role with the Center is coming to a close, Anderson supporters have created a scholarship that honors his vision of educational opportunities for Anderson’s staff of 800 to better serve the individuals in their care.

“The more we can create a thinking person who is self-directed, the better they will do on the job,” said Pollack.

Chief Operating Office Patrick Paul will assume the position of CEO in January of 2017. “After a transformative 15 years of leadership, Anderson’s Executive Team and Board of Trustees have decided to commemorate Neil’s tenure with the formation of the Neil J. Pollack Scholarship,” explains Paul.

The scholarship program has been designed to aid Anderson staff members in furthering their education. This year’s winners will be announced this fall during the Center’s Staff Recognition dinner.

A $5,000 scholarship will be awarded to one applicant pursing a degree in the Human Services field. There will also be three, secondary scholarships up to $2,500 each. All awards will be distributed over 24 months toward tuition, books, and fees.

The Center’s board of trustees has launched the initiative with $50,000. “Neil has been a staunch advocate for staff advancement and opportunities, which is why I believe the “Neil J. Pollack Scholarship Fund” is the perfect way to commemorate his service at Anderson.”
